Many or should I say most of us in the developed world are carrying around excess weight. I would even go so far as to say that maybe up to 50% of us have at some point in time, thought about or even tried some fad weight loss diet to rid ourselves of the excess fat, then within having gotten rid of it, you put it back on and in some cases even more than before with in 5 years!! There are approximately 100 million Americans that go through this cycle every year. it is astonishing that over 65% of Americans are over weight or Obese. It could be the same percentage in all other western countries?

Some of the unfortunate side effects of gaining and losing weight going from one diet to another every year is the cost to you and the impact that will have on your family budget. Even worse is the mental strain plus the stress levels you could experience could lead to Depression and other related illness.

All of a sudden you have more medical expenses than you ever really needed, all through your weight problems. It is a known fact that Obesity is a lucrative business for the huge Pharmaceutical Companies. You see Obesity and being over weight can lead to more seriously debilitating conditions like, Cancer, Heart Disease, Diabetes, Hypertension, Osteoarthritis and Gallbladder disease plus whatever else they can dream up.

Harvard University have completed some extensive research which shows that Obesity is a factor in;

- 19% of all cases of heart disease, estimated costs $30 billion per year and,

- 57% of diabetes cases,$9 billion per year.

Fad or quick weight loss diets usually focus on certain types of food. They do not follow the basic principle of good nutrition - good heath requires you to maintain a balanced diet, meaning you need to eat a variety of food types.

Most diets will work, the problem is managing your weight loss once you have achieved your ideal weight or goal. There are thousands of programs out there. Do not just go with any fad weight loss diet because it promises you'll get rid of the fat quickly, then leave you to figure out how to keep it off. Choose one that will teach you or train you to change your eating habits, allowing you to keep eating most of what you eat now in moderation or provide you with appropriate substitutes. Plus it must advise on some exercise routine that doesn't require you to spend thousands a year at a gym but maybe 15 to 30 minutes a day 3 times a week.

Good luck with your efforts.
